The Rainforest Elevator
Going down! Four forest layers. A very busy elevator.
Watch on YouTube
2:59A song. A few new discoveries.
Ride from the emergent layer through the canopy and understory to the forest floor. Meet macaws, toucans, sloths, howler monkeys, frogs and leafcutter ants, and discover how rainforest plants help move water into the air.
Our elevator is make-believe; the forest layers and wildlife are the learning adventure.
Made for curious kids around ages 6–12 and the grown-ups watching with them. Music and animation created with AI tools under Mike Sego’s direction. YouTube’s video description includes the release notes and credits.

Welcome aboard the rainforest elevator!
We're starting at the very top. Going down!
Top floor: the emergent layer, sticking up above the rest,
Where the tallest trees poke through, like a skyscraper's crest!
The harpy eagle's up here, with talons big and strong;
The scarlet macaws squawk a very noisy song!
Going down! Going down!
Rainforest elevator, floor by floor!
Every level's got a different crowd—
Ding! What's waiting on the next floor?
Next floor: the canopy, a leafy green roof so wide,
Most of the animals in the forest live up here inside!
The toucan's got a bill that's big and bright and light;
The sloth hangs upside down and barely moves all night!
The howler monkeys howl—the loudest monkeys around;
And tiny frogs live in plants that hold water off the ground!
Going down! Going down!
Rainforest elevator, floor by floor!
Every level's got a different crowd—
Ding! What's waiting on the next floor?
Next floor: the understory, shady, dim, and green;
The red-eyed tree frog's hiding, with the brightest eyes you've seen!
The blue morpho butterfly flashes blue, then brown;
A boa's curled on a branch—careful, don't look down!
Ground floor: the forest floor, where it's dark and damp and deep—
Just a little sunlight makes it down here, just a peep!
Leafcutter ants are farming fungus underground;
The jaguar's creeping quietly, and the tapir's snuffling around!
Rainforests cover just a little bit of land,
But they're home to half the kinds of creatures—isn't that grand?
And the trees breathe out the water, making clouds that rain back down—
The forest makes its own weather, all around!
Going down! Going down!
Rainforest elevator, floor by floor!
Every level's got a different crowd—
Ding! What's waiting on the next floor?
Ground floor! Everybody out! ...Wait, where's the sloth?
She only comes down once a week.
...You don't want to know why.
