3:03A song. A few new discoveries.
- Compare Earth, our Sun, and much larger stars.
- Explore how a size comparison makes enormous astronomical distances and objects easier to imagine.
Keep the curiosity going
If our Sun were a tiny dot, how would you draw a much bigger star?
Made for curious kids around ages 6–12 and the grown-ups watching with them. Music and animation created with AI tools under Mike Sego’s direction. YouTube’s video description includes the release notes and credits.

Okay. I measured the Earth. It's big.
...Then I looked up.
Here's our Earth, our home, so round,
About eight thousand miles from the top to the ground.
Then Jupiter rolls in, the planet king—
Eleven Earths could line up across that thing!
But the Sun leans over and says, "Excuse me, please,"
A hundred and nine Earths wide with ease.
You think that's the biggest? Well, hold on tight—
There are bigger stars out there tonight!
Big! Bigger!
Biggest in the sky? Not yet!
Big! Bigger! Betelgeuse!
Bigger than you'd ever bet!
Sirius shines the brightest at night,
Almost two Suns wide, so white.
Pollux is bigger, nine Suns across;
Arcturus, twenty-five—now who's the boss?
Aldebaran, the Bull's red eye,
Forty-four Suns wide in the sky.
Rigel's blue-white, burning hot,
About eighty Suns—that's quite a lot!
Hold on. Hold on. I'm gonna need a bigger ruler.
Antares glows, the Scorpion's heart,
Hundreds of Suns wide—now we're off the chart!
And Betelgeuse, on Orion's shoulder,
Is a red supergiant, puffed up and older.
If you set it down where our Sun should be,
It would swallow Mercury, Venus, Earth, and me—
Past Mars it would bulge, nearly Jupiter far!
Now that is a seriously supersized star!
Big! Bigger!
Biggest in the sky? Not yet!
Big! Bigger! Betelgeuse!
Bigger than you'd ever bet!
But here's a star that's tiny and tight:
A neutron star, a city in size,
Heavier than our whole Sun, packed in so small—
A teaspoon would weigh a billion tons in all!
So big isn't everything, and small isn't weak;
The universe is weird—let's take a peek!
Big! Bigger!
Biggest in the sky? Not yet!
Big! Bigger! Betelgeuse!
Bigger than you'd ever bet!
Big! Bigger! Betelgeuse!
Bigger than you'd ever bet!
So which star is the biggest of all?
Astronomers are still measuring.
...See? Everybody needs a bigger ruler.
